8- & 12-Week DBT Skill Groups

Our 8- and 12-week DBT skill groups are designed to teach teens, and adults alike, various invaluable skill sets needed to effectively manage distressing emotions that we all experience at times throughout our lives. DBT places a significant focus on the teaching of various skill sets designed to increase an individual’s interpersonal effectiveness with others as well as their ability to form and maintain new healthy relationships and the skills needed to end old toxic or destructive relationships too. DBT additionally, provides individuals with the increased individualized coping skills needed to enhance their ability to manage frustrations and upsets (i.e., fostering increased frustration tolerance among participants). Finally, DBT places a heavy emphasis on teaching participants various core mindfulness skills and on the incorporation of various aspects of mindfulness into one’s everyday living as one of the many ways to reduce an individual’s distress levels as well as their overall level of suffering, and to enhance their overall quality of life significantly.

**Our 8- and 12-week DBT skill groups are offered for teens, adults, and families (All groups offered by SSCC are provided individually for adults as well as separately for adolescents. The only time there will be a mixture of adolescents or children with adults in any of SSCC’s groups will be in those groups that are specifically deemed as “multi-family groups” or “family groups”). Our DBT groups are considered "closed groups." This indicates that clients must be pre-registered prior to the first day of group on week one. No new clients will be permitted to join after the first initial session on week one, this is done to enhance group cohesion by ensuring the same group members are present for each group meeting as well as to maintain a sense of safety necessary for sharing and growth to occur among group members. These groups are run on rotation every 8- and 12-weeks. As a result, if you inquire and we are currently in the midst of an 8 or 12 week cycle we will sign you up for the next enrollment period available.
